My "Keys to Success" for the P90X®

I get asked all the time, invariably, "How did you get results like that?"  In fact, I've been asked that so much that I've had a lot of time to really ponder my response.  The answer is fairly simple actually, and the answer is this: I wanted it badly enough! I wanted to change who I was.  I wanted to set an example for my kids that I could be proud of.

I tell people all the time "It will take a great deal of motivation, determination and resolve."  Most people don't understand how much of each I'm actually talking about.  To drop 35.5 pounds and 20.5% of my body fat in 90 days took a level of commitment that I had never put forth into anything before.  That being said, it was all worth it, in every way imaginable.  Look at the smile on my face – ear to ear!  That's what it's all about.

There are two things that contributed to my success more than anything else:

r2_after_211) My commitment to my diet and nutrition.  This was tested many, many times.  I firmly believe that my diet and supplementation were 60% of my results (maybe more).  I took it so seriously that I logged everything I ate.  Think I'm kidding?  I can account for EVERY calorie I put into my body during those first 90 days, right down to a stick of bubble gum (I'm serious).  That's what it took.

2) I never missed a workout.  Ever.  There was never a "I got busy and will make it up tomorrow" or "well, I didn't want to do that workout so I subbed in this activity instead."  Nope...not me...not ever.  I "Brought It" every day for ninety straight days, and constantly pushed myself to do better than I had in the previous workout.  I'd look at my charts, see what I did last time, grit my teeth and do more reps or push heavier weight.  Every time – no exceptions.  I gave those 90 days everything I had and left it all in the program.

The P90X® is an extreme program and is designed to provide extreme results in a 90-day time period.  If you do your part, the program will do its part.  I promise!

Hi Rafael, thanks for the kind words! I really appreciate that. QVC was super, duper fun, but, also really tiring! I went to Philly (QVC HQ) from Southern California, so in 72 hours I did 6,000+ miles, 4, 1-hour workouts and 2 time-zone changes! By Monday I felt like a truck hit me, LOL.

Joel, I have to say you inspired me to start P90X. I too saw your videos on youtube while looking for more information on P90X after my rugby coach had suggested it to me (he's in his 50's and can out-perform everyone on my team). I'm a senior in high school and currently applying to West Point Military Academy, and I have been using P90X in preparation for my upcoming fitness test (wish me luck)! So far I'm only two weeks into it, and I'm following your advice with the nutrition plan. I'm logging every single thing I eat, planning meals for the next day so I don't deviate from the plan, and I'm giving each and every workout everything I have. Going into this program in reasonable shape, I'm actually surprised to see how INTENSE it really is. I know I've given it my best when at the end of the day my shirt becomes a shade darker than when i started ;) Keep inspiring Joel!

Hello Williams, so sorry for the long delay in replying to your kind comment! By now you should be around Week 8 or 9, yes? How's it going?
